He noted that the mass rapid transit system has become a kind of "landmark" for Taipei City due to its convenient services, cleanness, kind volunteers, and a queuing culture.

Hau took the opportunity to express his gratitude to all the residents of Taipei for their role in helping to maintain a tidy environment along the MRT network, abiding by the rules of not eating, drinking, or chewing gum when inside the station or on trains. Passengers also demonstrate metro etiquette and respect for others through practices such as lining up, standing on the right side on the escalator, and yielding seats to the needed.

To promote the unique metro culture, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) has selected March 28--the day when the first MRT line was launched--as a day to be observed annually to remind the public of being considerate to others.

Highlights of the first Taipei Metro Culture Festival include:

1. Metro Elevator Design Contest
Submission Period: March 28 - April 28
Theme: Care for Others — giving priority to the elderly, disabled individuals, wheelchair users, and people with strollers.
Qualification: Participants need to possess R.O.C. nationality and can only sign up for one category with three submissions at most.
Category: Student (contestant's birthday is between Sep. 1, 1983 and Aug. 31, 1997) / Adult (contestant's birthday is on or after April 28, 1993)

2. Searching for Metro Riders
(1) I'm a Metro Rider
Period: March 29 – April 4
Details: Take a picture of yourself with signs or ads related to the event either on the MRT trains or inside MRT stations. Post it with your Facebook account to the activity website for a chance at winning free MRT ride tickets.

(2) Birthday Metro Rider
Period: March 28 – April 20
Details: Individuals born on the day of MRT Muzha Line's launch (March 28, 1996) are eligible to participate in this activity. They need to dial the TRTC customer hotline (02-218-12345) and say the Chinese password "我是捷客,關懷禮讓,便捷幸福" to receive a free MRT ride ticket and a one-day pass for both MRT and Maokong Gondola.

Children's Day Treat: Free Gondola Rides In conjunction with the series of 2013 Taipei Children's Month activities, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) will offer free Maokong Gondola rides for kids from across Taiwan on April 4!

The TRTC's Children's Day Special comprises two parts:

1. All Elementary School Students: On April 4, elementary students nationwide can enjoy unlimited rides on the Maokong Gondola by using a special ticket issued by TRTC. They will need to produce a valid ID (student ID or National Insurance Card) to acquire the ticket. Elementary school students from Taipei City can use their digital student ID at the gates to save time.

2. Students from Taipei City's Elementary Schools: Students from the city's elementary schools can use the Maokong Gondola coupon (included in the 2013 Children's Month Passport) anytime between April 2 and 30. They can submit the coupon at the gondola station for a free Maolong Gondola ticket (each student is limited to exchanging one coupon); the ticket will be valid for an entire day.

As an influx of visitors is expected on Children's Day, TRTC reminds students to take advantage of the advanced seat booking system available at Maokong Gondola's Chinese booking website (http://web.trtc.com.tw/c/gondola/booking/) to reduce queuing time.

TRTC reminds visitors that the gondola is closed for regular maintenance on Monday.

For more information on the Children's Day deals, please call TRTC 24-hour hotline (02-218-12345) or 1999 Citizen Hotline.

Maokong Gondola Unveils Super Value Round-trip Ticket Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) unveiled the Maokong Gondola Super Value Round-Trip Ticket on January 11.

Riders will be able to enjoy a round-trip (unlimited mileage), as well as an extra free ride, on their next trip using the ticket! The package comes at only NT$120!

The passenger can return the used ticket within 3 days of the ride to the agency for refund of the NT$20 card deposit.

According to TRTC, people take the gondola to experience the excitement of "air travel" and to take in the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. It would be a shame, however, for passengers not to visit the scenic spots at other gondola stops.

To promote local attractions in the Maokong area, TRTC invites riders to alight at Zhinan Temple Station to visit the beautiful temple. It also recommends that visitors explore the five scenic highlights situated in the Zhinan area.

Riders can then take the gondola to Maokong Station, where they can relish the unique local tea culture by enjoying a cup of oolong tea before returning to Taipei Zoo Station.

TRTC pointed out that 22 stores from the Maokong area are participating in the preferential program for customers presenting the Super Value Round-trip Ticket. Detailed discount information will be published on posters at the gondola stations.

For more information, please visit the Chinese website of TRTC (http://www.trtc.com.tw) or call the 24-hour hotline at 886-2-218-12345.

Free Battery Charging Available at all MRT Stations, Maokong Gondola, Taipei Arena, and Metro Mall Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) announced on August 15 that free battery charging is now available at a total of 110 facilities inside the public transportation network, including MRT stations, Maokong Gondola, Taipei Arena, and Metro Mall.

The installation of charging sockets has been completed well ahead of schedule – from the end of September to early August.

According to TRTC, the company has implemented plans to set up 259 additional charging sockets above the wireless Internet connection tables, located inside each of the 110 premises since February. Since recharging service became available to passengers, the usage rate of the outlets is reported to be around 200 times per day.

TRTC pointed out that the average charging time of each “use” lasts no more than 15 minutes. This indicates that the majority of MRT passengers recognize that use is only for emergency cases and many have shown temperance when employing this service.

Noting that both 110V and USB power outlets are also available at the charging table, the company reminds travelers to bring necessary charging equipment with them when using the facility.

For more information on this convenience measure, please call TRTC service hotline at 886-2-21812345.
